Answer:

Knowledge on vocabulary is important to improve reading, conversely other argue on importance of focusing on the productive skills such as writing and speaking. I believe that vocabulary is important for both reading, speaking and writing for their own reasons.
Firstly, vocabulary is an important part of reading, and to understand the gist of the text. In other words, if the student is familiarize with the meaning of the words, then he can figure out the concept of the text. Moreover, vocabulary will also help them in communication whether speaking or writing. On the positive side, people with good vocabulary will be able to express themselves clearly and succinctly.
However, the focus on English usage may create difference in learning methodologies. Some people have to focus on learning English for their daily usage; and they need good speaking and writing. Of course with limited vocabulary they can express their views and feelings, but they may not be able to express in effective way.
To sum up, with limited vocabulary one can focus on productive skills of english usage. But on the long run, they may not be able to have effective communication. In addition, knowledge on vocabulary is essential part of efficient and analytical reading. In a word, vocabulary is integral part for effective communication and reading.
