This essay discusses both arguments and state that it is important to develop skills of reading , writing , speaking and listening as well.
On the one hand,understanding a passage is aided by quickly grasping the meaning and nuances of the words used in the text.This is to say that one needs to have a wide range of vocabulary in order to understand written content.For instance,a student finds it easy to understand a reading passage of the IELTS test if he knows the words used in the script .Thus,it seems important to acquire a wide range of vocabulary in order to improve reading skills.
On the other hand , skills that aid in expressing thoughts, such as speaking and writing , are considered by some to be of greater importance .It is believed so for the reason that these skills have made it possible for knowledge to be passed from generation to generation. If not for these abilities , human race would remain barbaric and unchanged.Due to the lack of co-ordination caused by the inability to express views,man would not have achieved the developments seen now.Thus,it is clear how important productive skills are.

To conclude , given the importance of skills like reading , writing and speaking , I perceive that it is important to acquire all the above mentioned skills along with listening skill in order to complete the loop of communication .
