There are valid arguments on both sides of this topic which I will discuss in my essay and will reach a reasoned conclusion.
According to some, vocabulary is the chief component which one must acquire in order to comprehend anything that is written on a paper. For instance, if someone wants to get to know about the current situation about the world by reading newspaper, he or she she ought to understand the meaning of certain specific words related to that current situation or even the weather condition. This in order to perceive the correct information about something one must know the proper meaning of that to avoid any kind of misunderstanding.
On the other hand, people holding different view, think that skills of writing and speaking should be given more importance rather than vocabulary acquisition to understand the read topic. They think, after having read something , talking about it or keeping a note on that topic will make the whole topic much more apprehensive to the reader. In addition, being able to discuss any subject that one have read, makes him more knowledgeable as well as more competent in that particular field.
To conclude, in my opinion I strongly believe that acquiring vocabularies, or any productive skills are equally important to have a strong grasp about any subject. These skills complement each other and can not be replaced.
