Do copyright laws limit creativity or reward it? Would society function better without such rules and regulations? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example from your knowledge or experience.
Firstly, there is ample evidence that copyright is necessary to legally protect a personal work or new and valuable creations. Specifically, copyright is well known as prevention in the case that other people would produce copies of a specific work without owner’s consent. Consequences for a copyright infringement are important and regulated by the law. Therefore, to protect something by patent is considered an extremely valuable decision. It is also important in order to preserve them in the time and space. For instance, recent research from Harvard has shown that masterpieces protected by copyright have more chance to become famous because people can relate the work to a specific person.
Secondly, even if this practice could limit creativity, it must not be forgotten that to declare a property is actually the only way to protect relevant works, especially in the artistic community. This is due to the fact that in the present society, much importance has been given to art and creativity. Consequently, there is an impressive production of new works every year. For example, research conducted from The American Artistic Society has shown that the production of new creations protected by copyright has increased of 40% compared to last ten years.
In my opinion, the artistic sector needs to be preserved because it is expression of human roots and history. Despite this, nowadays it is considered an official guarantee to preserve all people’s intellectual rights and works.
