Are there alternatives in the education system? Is traditional education doing more harm than good?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

The issue of traditional schooling has grown in importance since the advent of academic inflation. I believe that alternatives to traditional education such as online schooling might encourage students’ creativity in all aspects of learning along with traditional academic subjects. Additionally, old way of education has more negative effect on children than positive.

In this era of digitalisation, schools can be brought home via online teaching. This helps student to master academic subjects such as science, mathematics and language along with non-academic subjects such as music, art and sports. Moreover, this helps to broaden a child’s horizon and stimulate their innovative abilities. For instance, a study done by UNESCO in Scotland showed that children with online schooling outperformed students with traditional schooling in all fields. Therefore, it is time to rethink the fundamental principle on which the young ones are educated and experiment with the education paradigm.

The whole education system is built on the idea of academic ability and intelligence, which aims to provide successful careers. This is due to the fact that the public education was meant to meet the needs of the sprawling industrialisation and help people to get high profile jobs. For example, a study by IMF showed that around 25 percent of engineers were unemployed as people with higher degrees like PhD replaced them. Thus, this whole education system is causing more harm than benefit as it doesn’t fulfil its basic principle of helping people earn their livelihood out of it.

Although traditional schooling has been followed for decades, embracing alternative methods of education might prove beneficial and help in the holistic development of a child. It is predicted that in future, education system might undergo a revolution to catalyse individual talents of people.

The three pie charts above show council expenses in six different fields of three counties ( Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Lancashire) in the UK in 2014.

In Yorkshire, education and leisure represents less than a half of the council expenditure. Community care and Social Services represents around 20 percent and 15 percent respectively and the least share was spent on environment, approximately at 10 percent. Derbyshire allocated its capital largely on leisure at around 35 percent and education represented a quarter of the expenditure. This was closely followed by community care which was allocated roughly 20 percent and fair amount was spent on environment at around 10 percent. The smallest share was spent on Social Services at less than 5 percent.

Lancashire spent there expenditure mainly on education and leisure which when combined made upto 60 percent of the total council expenses. Rest four fields accounted for around 10 percent each.

To summarise, all the three countries investment of the council was majorly on leisure and education, and least on social services and environment.
