What are the reasons for this and how can this be solved?
There is no doubt that pollution in major cities are causing damage nowadays. This essay will discuss the cause and the measure to take to address this problem.
Firstly, one of the main cause of pollution in capital cities is the growing number of cars in the street. This is because humans rely heavily on vehicles and engines for transporting people, goods and services. Exhaust fumes emitting from vehicles causes immense amount of air pollution and overuse of this is killing the environment and people’s health. For example, a research study in China showed that air pollution poses a major threat to Chinese public health as poisonous gas level reached beyond its limit and increased significantly over the past decades. Secondly, manufacturing industries can be found at almost all metropolitan cities. These factories releases large amount of dangerous gases into the atmosphere, thereby depleting the quality of air. As a result, the health of every individual is compromised.
The most practical solution to this problem is a government sponsored awareness campaign . Governments could introduce laws to limit emissions from factories. They could also impose taxes on drivers, limit the number of factories and private own vehicles. For instance, in Japan, the government is making an effort to implement a decent public transportation to its citizen. In this way people would be encourage to use the bus, trains and other means of public transportation rather than driving therefore, reducing emissions.
In conclusion, air pollution from vehicles and factories is and has been a major environmental issue. Government must take charge in looking after the environment by implementing this solution.
