Are there alternatives in the education system? Is traditional education doing more harm than good?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

The issue whether the conventional way of education slows down the development of the children and that a non-traditional approach is better is a contentious topic and has grown in importance over the last century. It must be acknowledged that the educational system must adapt to the inevitable changes advancements in the society. This can be done by incorporating effective learning alternatives and improving the classical educational system.

On one hand, the educational needs of the future generation are constantly changing. This can be addressed by revolutionizing the curriculum by providing an alternative educational system through modern technology such as the internet. Moreover, online and home study is the trend now. In recent studies in the USA showed that 90% of students enrolled in remote e-learning have significantly scored higher in academics compared to the students under the earlier system. Thus, the alternatives in the educational system have gained positive impact more than the conventional means.

On the other hand, the presence of the old learning system has a myriad of drawbacks. Low-quality education, high costs, and even inconvenience are some of the problems that most students encounter in the previous system. To exemplify, according to UNESCO’s statistics, 8 out of 10 parents in developed countries prefer home-study for their children for security and bullying concerns. If the traditional way of learning would continue educational advancement and progress would be delayed.

I vehemently think that replacing the past educational system by a modernized approach would bring surmountable advantages than being stagnant to the past system. It is predicted that modernization in developing countries will continue in the future, reducing illiteracy rate by 50%.

The pie charts depict the different categories of the UK council expenditures in Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Lancashire in 2014.

In Yorkshire, the highest expenditure was in education, similar to Lancashire’s at 30%. However, Derbyshire had the highest expenditure in leisure which was almost 50%, education was second only at a quarter.

Furthermore, the lowest expenditure for Derbyshire was in social sciences by only around a fifth of the chart, in contrast to Yorkshire and Lancashire which were significantly greater at approximately 30% and 25% respectively. Yorkshire had 15% in the environment cost, half the value of Derbyshire environmental allocation.

Lancashire, on the other hand, had equal expenditures in social science, community care, and environment at 10 % each. Moreover, Yorkshire had almost 30% in the community care expenditure, double of Lancashire’s allotment in the same category. Likewise, all three locations shared a similar expenditure allotted to others at an estimate of 20%.

Overall, it is clearly seen that the expenditure allocations per category of the three areas differ from each other.
