Others argue that productive skills such as writing and speaking are more important. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Communication has been an essential part of human beings to convey messages. Acquiring new words is essential for a clearer and more precise understanding. Certain individuals believe that in order to learn words reading is significant, while others think that active skills such as writing and speaking are determined to be more effective.
Firstly, reading has been considered to be a passive way of learning new information which can be used in everyday life. Others argue that unfamiliar words encountered from reading has more retention compared to speaking or writing. Reading a material of interest stimulates the brain to imagine what the writer wrote. Like for example newspapers which are formally written uses words that are accurate very specific to the context and content of the topic which in turn helps the reader to learn and understand new words. Therefore, reading is essential for lexical resource improvement.
However, there are also opinions saying that words can truly be learned if they are put into practice by speaking and writing. They say that speaking is the initial skill which children learns. By imitation children are able to memorize the words uttered by their parents. Moreover, writing is a more advanced skill as it requires planning and bank of words to communicate meanings and information effectively. Writers utilizes words with dexterity in describing their book, for instance.
In my own opinion, I believe that all the skills are interlinked with each other. Reading though, is the initial step in gaining new words and this will be followed by using it though speaking which is the easiest among the skills followed by writing which solidifies the retention of the word through sentences, and paragraphs.
In conclusion, vocabulary building is essential for an effective communication. Learning words can definitely be taken not in a single aspect but by overlapping these skills and doing this simultaneously. However, there are steps to be taken which begins from reading, speaking then writing.
