To what extent do you agree?
Some social groups argue that even modern technology has its benefits, it has severe consequences such as the decline of communication in households. I highly disagree with this statement. This essay will discuss how technology can help improve discourse or exchange, using examples from the United States of America and the Philippines to demonstrate points and support arguments.
Firstly, modern technology helps people to communicate better. A lot of devices and programs are easily accessible and cost-effective, if not free. People are now able to communicate using computers, smartphones, intelligent watches, etc. In a study from America, the percentage of messenger app users rose by 150% in a span of one year and is still projected to ascend in the next 10 years. Therefore, communication has not really been severed. In fact, families and friends are closer than ever due to continuous improvement in communication technology.
Secondly, the Internet provides infinite possibilities for communication. Viber, Whatsapp, Messenger, FaceTime, Skype, etc. is widely available and these applications help people feel closer and has the ability to provide a sense of intimacy for loved ones. In research from the Philippines, general statistics showed that 90% of overseas Filipino used messenger apps or emails to catch up and be updated with their peers and loved ones. As a result, the internet makes it easier for people to feel connected and engaged.
As a conclusion, I highly disagree that communication in households has dramatically decreased. I think, since the spread of high-tech gadgets, it makes communication easier than ever. (260)

Doing an enjoyable activity with a child can develop better skills and imaginations than reading. To what extent do you agree? Use reasons and specific examples to explain your answer.
Reading is proven to be an effective learning method or technique for children but other enjoyable activities are said to provide better results. I highly agree that such activities can develop more skills than traditional methods. This essay will discuss how enjoyable activities are better compared to reading, using examples from Japan and France to demonstrate points and support arguments.
Firstly, I believe that computers and gaming consoles such as the Playstation, XBox360 and Wii provide high quality stimulation while having an enjoyable time. Benefits would include improvement in attention, concentration, and problem solving. In a study done in Japan, 7 out of 10 students who played video games had better problem solving skills and creativity. Therefore, computer games and gaming consoles can stimulate other skills that reading cannot.
Secondly, sports can be both entertaining and mentally stimulating as well. The urge to win improves skills in strategy, thinking out of the box, and improves competitiveness. For example, in a research done in France, 9 out of 10 students who played sports was more likely to succeed in academics than other peers who did not partake in sports. Therefore, far more skill sets are obtained in doing enjoyable and entertaining activities while reading can only stimulate a limited area of a child development.
In conclusion, I highly agree that enjoyable activities can help develop other skill that reading cannot stimulate. Far more areas are being trained unconsciously when a child is enjoying as they do not think that they are studying but rather just having fun and finishing a task.
