Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to sincere apology for my absence January 10th for final exam and the late submission of proof documents.
My name is James who is in the second year of Computer Science. My student number is 532123.
In the morning of the final exam day, I had a severe headache with high fever. I was even not able to get up from the bed. As symptoms deteriorated, my roommate took me to the Toronto hospital. Although I should have submitted the evidence of my illness within five working days according to the academic regulation, five days’ hospitalization prevented me from submitting the medical certificate on time.
My doctor submitted the required document in the morning today, including the reason why I could not submit the document before the due date. Therefore, I would like to kindly request permission for me to take a makeup exam this Friday.
If any additional documents or information is required, please let me know.
Please accept my apology.
Regards,
James
GENERAL TASK 2
Do copyright laws limit creativity or reward it? Would society function better without such rules and regulations?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
At the end of the lesson there is a video to help you get ideas, you will also see some useful vocab.
Since the advent of Information technology, this issue of copyright laws has grown in importance over the last few decades. While many large corporations claim that copyright laws allow them to protect their properties and achievements, some digital experts argue that these rules and regulations retrain creativity and innovation. In this essay, both views will be discussed with the examples of digital films and computer programs.
Firstly, there is ample evidence that copyright laws have protect creativity effectively from patent infringement. Recent studies from Cambridge University show that purchase of digital copies of movies including DVD and Blu-ray has increased drastically since copyright laws has been applied to all kinds of streaming services in 1999. Creative movies would not have been released anymore if film corporations had lost sales due to the illegal download of content.
On the other hand, it is no doubt that the era from 1990 to 2000 is the peak of software development when there was literally no patent protection. Most renowned software such as Microsoft Windows and Office had been invented at that time and they still play a vital role in the software industry. On contrast to the last century, nowadays every technical organization has been focusing on filing for patents of every single line of code and mediocre designs. This phenomenon has accelerated the deterioration of creative software products.
In conclusion, although protecting intellectual property rights is a crucial aspect of technological innovation, a scope of copyright protection should be amended not to spoil the creativity of human being.
